About

Socorro Society was born from a lifelong love of vintage, sustainability, and creativity. Founded by a San Antonio native Lauren Gonzalez, the brand reflects years of hands-on experience in upcycling, fashion, and craftsmanship.

From a young age, I was drawn to old things—music, clothing, furniture—and spent my high school years thrifting before it became a movement. After studying Public Administration at Texas State and interning with the Department of Treasury in D.C., I realized the traditional career path wasn’t for me. I pursued my passions instead, first launching Loving Cup Vintage in Austin, then working as a hair and makeup artist in the independent film industry, and eventually returning to my roots in sustainable fashion.

I started with vintage clothing but quickly felt the urge to create something new from the old. Cutting, sewing, embroidering—I transformed secondhand pieces into one-of-a-kind garments and accessories. Over time, this evolved into teaching others the art of embroidery, sewing, and sustainability. Socorro Society is more than a brand; it’s a space for education, creativity, and conscious consumption.

The name honors my grandmother, María de Socorro, a true style icon. An old-school Mexican lady from Monterrey, she was always polished, always put together, and always looked good. She taught me the value of taking pride in what you wear and how you carry yourself. She passed in 2022, but her influence lives on in everything I create.
At Socorro Society, we believe in the power of secondhand fashion, the beauty of handmade craftsmanship, and the importance of learning lost skills. Let’s mend, upcycle, and create together.
